AgriFood case study Indonesia

Support to the Agricultural Rehabilitation effort in Indonesia Tearfund

Following the devastating Tsunami of 2004, experts were tasked with analysing soil contamination levels  and determining if the compositions of marine deposits on farm land  were suitable for alternative crops in the Meulaboh area.

NI-CO assisted the implementation of the project by supporting;

  • a  Technical Assessment to gather and analyse data contributing to the  development of a resue plan for affected agriculture sites in the  region.
  • Studies of markets and alternative cropping arrangements using FAO documentation,  field visits and interviews– analysis and recommendations given  specific to cropping arrangements.
  • Study  of soil and salination issues in areas where agricultural projects are  to be implemented – and recommendations given on desalination issues  and appropriate project design.
