NI-CO has recently commenced a 3 year EU grant project in Montenegro, EU Support to the Rule of Law. The formal launch of the project took place on Thursday 10 April in the EU Info Centre in Podgorica. This was a very successful event and was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister, The Minister for Interior, the EU Head of Delegation and the Ambassadors of the United Kingdom and of the Netherlands.
The project has two key Components, the first component dealing with the independence, efficiency and accountability of the Judiciary, working with the Ministry of Justice, Court Authorities and Supreme State Prosecution Office. This is a new area for NI-CO to take the lead on and our team of Short Term Experts will be working together with the local beneficiaries to increase the capacity of the judiciary for reform, improve the quality of judicial statistics, strengthen the capacity of the Judicial Training Centre and improve the IT system within the Ministry of Justice.
The second component deals with strengthening the administrative, technical and operational capacities of the Police Directorate, Administration for Prevention of Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism, and the State Property Administration.
The NI-CO team is led by Derek McLoughlin as Team Leader and is also supported by Alan Bacarese as the LTE for Component 1.
