Support to the implementation of the EU-Jordan Association Agreement (SAAP) – Reform of the Jordan Veterinary and Phyto-sanitary inspection: EU

The objective of this project was to improve animal and plant health in Jordan, bringing them into line with EU and International standards.

NI-CO supported the EU-Jordan association agreement by providing assistance in the following areas:

  • Installation of an animal identification system through the assessment of regulatory frameworks and through a capacity needs assessment.
  • Improving the animal disease surveillance system through capacity building measures and by undertaking a survey of current conditions in farming.
  • Establishing a rapid alert system for epidemic disease through the creation of an action plan for change where needed.
  • Raising the standards of border entry points and quarantine facilities, studying the inspection procedures of live animals and plants as well as the sampling process.
