Economic Development
Due to the decline of Northern Ireland's traditional industries since the early 1980's there has been active encouragement of and support for small business development by government agencies, the private sector and local community organisations whose combined efforts have stimulated a very healthy enterprise culture. To facilitate the development of an enterprise culture the government supported the establishment of a network of Local Enterprise Agencies which are widely recognised as being among the best in the UK.
Broadly speaking the problems addressed with considerable success by Northern Ireland over the last 15 years are very similar to those facing many countries developing market economies.
