Governance
The Northern Ireland public sector has undergone a series of transformations and evolutions in recent years in line with the UK Government approach to modern public sector management to introduce greater efficiency, effectiveness and accountability. These changes have been brought about within an environment which differs greatly from other regions in the UK, because of the particular backdrop of prolonged civil unrest, severe socio-economic deprivation and high dependency upon public sector employment. The result has been a closely integrated government network which facilitates good inter-institutional linkages and policy making procedures both within the public sector and between Government, civil society, the legal system and the private sector.
