Strengthening Health and Population for the Less Advantaged (SHAPLA) DFID €8.5 million

This project set out to improve the health status of the poor, particularly poor women and children by increasing access to and utilization of cost-effective health services with an emphasis on training and knowledge transfer:

NI-CO provided expertise in the following areas:

  • Technical assistance to develop the management and planning capacity of the Directorate of Nursing Services and the regulation of the profession was improved through strengthening the capacity of the Bangladesh Nursing Council.
  • Capacity was developed to regulate private service delivery through quality control mechanisms to purchase, through contracts, services for defined populations.
  • Development of a pilot project to establish in-service vocational training for medical officers and paramedics.
